The monument was most likely designed with the advice of
Michelangelo. The pope (bronze statue) is seated on a high pedestal
and is shown bareheaded. Four marble statues (the Virtues) laid at
the foot of the pedestal. Nel 1628 Bernini spostò il monumento in una nicchia
nell'abside della Basilica e due statue furoono trasferite a Palazzo Farnese. |
